I need four rivets, Volvo part number 977711, the trouble is that they are £5.60 each plus shipping. That's £25 for four rivets!

They are part number 5 on this diagram for those that are interested;

They will be underwater (salt), and fixed to aluminium.

I am thinking Monel or stainless for the corrosion resistance. I don't think galvanic corrosion will be a big issue do to the relative size of the rivets and drive.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I'd use Monel rivets and Duralac. I can't see a size on the diagramme but as an example, 1/4" diameter x 3/4" long Monel rivets are 2quid each at my local chandlery! Cheaper online though.
On point though, they say blind rivet in the list, which could mean having a closed end, but most normally available rivets are not closed but just blocked by the pull-up shank, and this is not watertight.

I always took 'blind rivet' to just mean a standard pop rivet. Blind in as much as you only need to get to the front of the work. I can't imagine there is any waterproofness here, so I may just go for Monel rivets of a suitable size.

That's an interesting site. Seems there is a branch up the road. I have sent them a request, although I have a feeling they are more set up for bulk supplies to the trade, so I am not sure how my request for 4 pop rivets is going to be received :D

in 1989 a single castellated nut, around 8mm IIRC, cost me £18.00 from Volvo Penta, and the nasty zinc cast propellor boss for the saildrive was £480 - it had cracked and was such poor metal ( that's not actually the term I was told ) that none of the specialist welding units at British Aerospace Kingston could fix it...

I'm sure NASA ( not the depthsounder ones, the space outfit ) don't pay anything like VP prices for their stuff !

Well, if you don't ask you don't get. I recently had one supplier quote a MOV of £50 + p&p +vat for a £9 item. I received the item next day "with compliments" and they did get a larger order, way above their MOV. I think it is called "customer service", something I find is slowly coming back into fashion.
Do let us know how you get on
