Volvo Penta power steering actuator

Help required. I am new to boat owning and have noticed a leak below the power steering actuator , I have topped up the fluid twice and at the end of the day the fluid is collecting in the bilge below the actuator, the pipes appear sound and no other leakage anywhere. Having researched I probably need to replace the actuator, anyone have any advice on price of a new one and is it a difficult task for a beginner. TIA

I am guessing you mean the ram at the back of the engine? If so, I don't see why it should be difficult as long as you have good access. Most boat's dont, unfortunately, so you may need to become double jointed and, if you are like me, lose some weight. Alternatively, employ someone else. Sometimes its worth the money

I believe there are a few different rams for different engines, so maybe a part number, or at the very least the engine and drive set up that it is working with, may help narrow it down a bit.

Check the power steering oil cooler if we are talking stern drive.

There's always lots on eBay if I remember correctly. I think it's possible to rebuild them.

It's always a good idea when posting a topic to let us know the engine type, transmission type and what sort of boat it is.

I've got a complete system (reservoir, ram, pipes) in the shed off a Dp-a so probably too early.
