Hi - VP MD2030B with MS2LD Gearbox and a broken Cooling Pipe -

Running in a Moody 336

Any thoughts on running without this cooler in line - part is ordered but a few days away - I can easily bypass the gearbox with an intake hose - but will the gearbox suffer much ? cheers.

Thanks but the copper pipe flare is damaged and it leaks. - yes I can manage - but was really questioning the need for the G/Box cooler
Cheers

If you were running the engine for hour after hour than I would perhaps think about it, but temporarily? I would do it.
Mine was the same, justunderneath the flare, almost like electrolosis, I carefully cleaned the copper up and filled the hole with solder. I put a thin layer of araldite on top. Temporary job ............. 11 years ago!
I havethe new second hand pipes in the locker still along with the rubber joints!

It is not unusual for people to bypass the gearbox cooler especially on older gearboxes where the cooling passage has cracked into the oil space during a winter freeze. For many people the bypass becomes a permanent feature . Try it and just check the gearbox temperature around the output shaft (thrust bearing ) area from time to time . Usually in our UK area there is no problem and worst case scenario you might not be able to belt along at full power into a head wind for hours on end. If you can comfortably keep your hand on the rear gearbox casing then you should be fine. Otherwise slow down.

Many thanks - reassuring - I will however renew the pipe - (like to keep up appearances)
