Hi , i am new to this forum. Any advise would be welcome. I have bought a small boat with this engine fitted . Previous owner said engine would not start at all . He had an engineer fit new piston rings and reconditioned CAV fuel injection pump & injectors installed. Cylinder head had valves and seats recut at same time. Engine has new starter motor and good large battery. When trying to start engine producing white fuel smoke but not fire up. I have carried out a compression test while engine cranking and only was getting 140 to 150 psi . I have had engine stripped and found bores worn . I have had new cylinder liners fitted back to std bore & new piston rings fitted with correct ring gap rebuilt engine . I now have 200 to 210 psi @ cranking & get engine to start when using cold start lever on bottom of injection pump . but does crank for up to 20 seconds before starting. Volvo manual says i should have 280 to 320 psi .Has any members had previous experiences of this engine and any advise .
