Hi everyone,
I have just fitted a Md7a Volvo Penta engine to my Yacht Starts and works fine !!! But have not got the controls yet!!
While operating the gear change by hand (Just to make sure everything operates ) It suddenly dawned on me that I do not know which is forward or Reverse gears as they are not marked on the Gearbox.......... So I do not know if the Prop should be Right or left handed ?
I can see that the Flywheel spins clockwise as you look at it, so which way should the shaft spin in forward gear while looking down the length of the boat?????

ANY HELP APPRECIATED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting there - Paid work interrupted fun work for three days last week, and again today.

6A is on the ground ( came out of hatch OK complete with combi, and stubs of shaft and exhaust still attached). Bearers fitted, marked, drilled and tapped. Fuel lines ( supply, spill, and vent) replaced. Wiring tidied up. Fitting insulation tomorrow - still plenty to do. Been taking plenty of pics. Will do a write up, have some thoughts which I will pass on for consideration.

Hi

I had an MD7a in last boat, not sure if I can answer your question but it kicked to starboard when going astern. Also when it was in reverse the gear box made more of a whine type noise, my MD11c makes same noise. Does that help?

Mine had a MD7A with MSB gearbox, kicked to starboard in reverse, and was definitely a left-handed prop.
If looking forward to the boat, the shaft turns anticlockwise.
