Volvo penta MD1 drain plug size (not MD1B)

Sump plug looks a good idea. From further research the thread appears to be M10 x 1 which must be fairly common. I have a friend with an engineering works at his disposal so could ask him if the original beggar doesn't turn up. I drained the block for the winter and, cleverly I thought, left the plug out to drain any residue or condensation - now I can't find it but it may turn up before commissioning time.

Oh water drain, not sump drain then !

This drain tap is what Keypart comes up with. It fits a range of older engines, as you can see, so if you just want a plug one to fit one of these will do the trick

Id not be surprised to find that it is a BSP size

I used a brass plumbing fitting, but afraid I cant remember the size. A pipe fittings supplier should have no trouble supplying if you can source a bolt which fits the thread

Good news! I've found it but the thread looks a bit manky. Haven't got any accurate measuring equipment but using a tape, it appears to be a taper thread 10mm - 9mm and 1mm pitch. Hex head (12mm) and thread length 10mm.

Maybe its an M10 x 1.0 thread but your measurement is sufficiently crude for it to be 1/8" BSP ( pitch 0.907mm OD 10.2 mm)

Yes I agree my measurements with a flexible tape are unlikely to be within 0.1mm. If 1/2" bsp I can probably get one from a plumbers merchant.

Refitted it yesterday but think I'll replace with proper tap next time. The thread is severely worn and its impossible to fit (With my sausage like fingers) without swinging the dynastart out of the way.
