Volvo penta kad32 problems

there's another kad32 in the same marina with identical symptoms after doing an oil & filter change
Did both boats use the same fuel filters obtained from the same source? Could a defective fuel filter restrict the amount of fuel being delivered to the engine ?

The diference between reverse and ahead would be down to the props having different efficency in each direction I think.
Regarding your under load testing, this is in open water and not tied to the pontoon........just that I did come accross someone who spent days working on a problem that wasn't there because he was testing whilst tied to the pontoon where the full revs never will be developed! Just thought i'd mention it in case!!!

The fuel is getting there but it's not burning, hence the black/grey scum on the water after 1200revs .It seems to be lack of air or possible bad injector spray pattern

open water or tied to the pontoon is the same result.2000revs max

NE scotland.

NE Scotland is a long coastline ...

If you have two boats / engines with same problem after filter change etc., I'd definetly go back to KIS methodology ...

Fuel supply & air supply .... and in this case it sounds like fuel supply ... (otherwise you'd have loads of black smoke)..

Presume that when you bypassed the tank, you still went through the filter ?

I'd hazard to guess fuel or fuel filter restriction ... you got the spec / make / model of filter for someone in here to comment on ?

Anything from gauze in tank pick-up, through to fuel supply valve and filters is worth checking again.....

The filters on this 1 are all VP fiters.oil #3517857,fuel #21492771,separator #861014.
the other boat is using cross ref Fleetgaurds.
when I bypassed the supply I came in at the fuel out pipe from separator, using an electric fuel pump from a remote 25lt plastic tank, then going onto the lift pump.
I am getting some smoke but not a lot.there is a smoke inhibitor on the engine. but I am getting unburnt fuel on the water at anything above 1/3 throttle position.
Im in fraserburgh.there's a VP dealer here, that wont touch leisure engines, and 1 in aberdeen who supply leisure parts but are not keen to fix them.Inverness is the closest vp leisure engine fixers(105 miles),and I've been phoning them on a regular basis and getting told that someone will get back to me!!!

Grasping at straws here as I don't really know the KAD32 (got Detroits onboard...)

Just suspicious that this happened after a filter change with no problems before (have you still got the old set ?).. could also be restrictions in the return line...

If air is restricted, have you tried running without air filter as a test ??

Had the boat in Peterhead marina for years and yes ... judging by comments in there McKay's were not the best at responding to my fellow "leisure boaters" ... and my experience with Caley (we're now bearthed in Inverness), is that they are not the most responsive at this time of the year .... (keeping their rental cruisers running) ...

Have you tried Precision Diesel Services, Seafield Rd, Inverness, Inverness-shire IV1 1SG, 01463 232211 - .... believe they are pretty good on injection systems....

Sorry for the not so constructive help here, but understand your predicament and frustration with the "local" Volvo agent(s) ...

Todays adventure went like this.
Took off the air intake from the compressor and turbo to check for blocked pipes, nothing wrong there.Next removed the charge air cooler, checked it for blockages and also checked the pipe from the turbo.
The turbo seems to be spinning freely so I removed the exhaust elbow to check the rotor for movement.everything seems to be ok with it.
I've noticed there's some black smoke, just a whisp though,at 1200 revs just before the comp kicks in at WOT.
I'm thinking a lack of air.
Does the turbo boost gauge measure just turbo boost of turbo and comp pressure?
Is there a limp mode on a kad32?
How can doing a oil and filter change make an engine do this weirdness? because there's another kad32 in the same marina with identical symptoms after doing an oil & filter change

Does the engine run smoothly?

The only thing I can think of IF changing filters was the only thing you did is that you did not get them seated right and you are getting air into the system.
