Hello,
I have had a good look around before posting, whilst I can see plenty topics relating to cooling issues on the KAD series engines, I cant find an answer to my specific query.
Our starboard engine was running overtemp whilst underload recently, and only after a reasonable time running. All obvious things checked. Decided first and foremost to get the thermostats changed as a starter without any success.
Having checked everything else over, decided to go for a Rydlyme treatment and descale of the heat exchanger. All went fine with that process.
On sea trial yesterday, the temp ran over quicker than ever before, thought I may have an air lock, and when cracking the strainer cap the bottle was empty of water so thought that was it, ran up again and same problem presented itself each time. On return to Marina, and on closer inspection, someone in the past has repaired the outgoing seawater coolant pipe from the strainer to the heat exchanger with self amalgamating tape, looks like it had been in contact with the very close belt at some point. I can now only assume I have disturbed the seal of the repair when removing the pipe for the decaling.
So, and apologies for the long post, any advice on how simple is it to replace the outgoing sea water pipe from the strainer to the heat exchanger? Is it a major dismantle to get to the heat exchanger connection? The route looks quite difficult / impossible to trace beyond the bottom end of the engine where it rises back up internally?
Considering a temp repair and join to existing pipe to sea trial again and prove this is the only remaining issue, but would rather replace in full if not a massive undertaking.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
