Hello everyone I am new to the Forum and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with a problem that is presenting me the evc system of my boat, yesterday during the docking maneuver I am presented with a failure in the joystick MID 164 PSID 64 FMI 10 and the joystick stopped working, accept the alarm and stop the starboard engine to clear the alarm and the joystick went back to work for a short period of time until the fault appeared again.
Could someone help me with this?
will it be necessary to perform a calibration on the joystick?
or will it be a failure in the joystick that requires its change?

I have a feeling there was a similar thread some moths ago and the issue turned out to be batteries ( low voltage upset the system). I am away so only on my phone which makes finding thread tricky as the search function is pretty useless!

FMI 10 isn't shown in the manual (only FMI 9 & FMI 12), but that aside, the first two elements of the code point to a joystick issue rather than a voltage problem.

I've seen this code with FMI12 on a Commercial application which had a lot of Joystick manoeuvring being done, and it was ultimately described to me by those in the know that the position sensor at the bottom of the joystick had worn out and was causing a poor contact, hence the joystick triggered a fault as it couldn't rely on the position information it was sending to the rest of the system.

This would be supported by the fact that you were able to start using it again for a short period of time after resetting.

How many helm stations do you have? Does it happen on demand? (i.e. if you swapped it to another helm, do you think the fault would happen again quite soon afterwards?)

Swapping it is relatively straight forward as it is just two plugs, as long as you can get to the underside of the dashboard & steering wheel wiring. Once fitted, you'd need to complete an autoconfiguration but shouldn't need to complete another joystick calibration.
