Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows of a spurious or alternative ignition switch to the Volvo 859573 switch. On our boat you have to hold the key to turn off the engine and then it springs back to 0 when released, which I am struggling to find on an alternative switch. Most of what I can find have this feature for engine start, (turn to start and springs back to run) but does not have a spring for turning off.

Genuine switch is very expensive so would like to see if anyone found a cheaper alternative

Thanks

Many switches have this for glow plugs. It shouldn't matter what the switch is for, just wire it to the stop solenoid instead of whatever else it was designed for. Alternatively just get a push button for the stop solenoid.

ie 4 position ignition switch

I think the waterproof , 5 position, diesel engine switch from Furneaux Riddall does what you need if you connect the stop circuit to the accessories position.
Check it out

Maybe the non waterproof one too .....?

Check if you need the glow plugs on during the "start" and if so whether these switches do that.
.
Edit: check also if the switch springs back from the acc's position. You'd not want to leave the stop solenoid energised or it might burn out.
BTW 859573 is obsolete and replaced by 888001 ....... still €262

The switches don't spring back from acc. Connecting the stop solenoid to this would be dangerous, some of the stop solenoids don't like being left on for very long.

I have just changed my switching arrangement to push button stop/start, so have some spare key switches.

On second thoughts the accessories position is probably also energised in the run position so no good at all.
