I have a Penta 2000 series engine (2 cylinder) reconditioned and professionally installed on my westerly centaur. I have also replaced the fuel tank as it was rusting and full of sludge. All fuel filers have been replaced.
My problem is that the engine will start only after cracking the bleed screw on the filter housing (or prolonged cranking) and once started it runs perfectly for about 5 mins then begins to hunt and slow until the engine eventually stops. If I crack the bleed screw during the hunting the problem goes away for a few minutes. The hunting is evident at high revs or low revs.
I am now a little short of ideas as the tank is new, filters new (and changed twice just in case there were remaining particles in the line) engine runs ok but for some reason it accumulates air somehow.
I have connected a clean fuel supply directly to the inline engine filter to rule out air ingress from the fuel lines. But the same symptoms persist.
Any ideas ???
