Volvo Penta engine mount

I'd stick with the VP parts, maybe sourcing them from a cheaper supplier (although VP dealers are usually prepared to discount). If you start messing about with alternative mounts, you could possibly regret it.

I need a new mount for my 2030.

VP parts are notoriously expensive. Suggestions please as to the best place to go
I looked at mine on my MD22 and did the research see thread here

Things moved on from there and i found Robush sold them, £20 plus pounds each. If you look on the base plate of your mounts you will see the shore hardness stamped on them, in my case 45. This is the important number, as long as you get somewhere near it will be fine. Later on i found some info about shore hardness, basically most of our similar size donks will use the same. ie the D55 is the same.

maybbe up to £70 each but i haven't rung round yet.

The engineer who looked at mine said undo the two bottom bolts first - they should be threaded into the engine base.

Then lift up the side you are going to do (He said a strong lad could do this but I am thinking a bottle jack) and you should be able to unscrew the vertical bolt which supports the engine - it should separate from the mount.

If you want I will give you a progress report but the engineer won't be back before Xmas

I used a couple of wood wedges under the gear box, wasnt v hard to do. The difficult bit was holding the nut in the figlass channel under the engine. Mrs D small hands and stubborness helped beat the barstewards!

Hi, I had a 2030 in my last boat, the aft bracket failed whilst in use, caused in excess of £4k damage boat nearly sank! The problem with these brackets is the poor design as was written about in the PBO some years ago, anyway, to get to the point, yes the Volvo replacements are very expensive, my replacements, both fore and aft were made up by the boatyard and were very heavily constructed at a lower cost than Volvo, so get your local metal worker to make the replacements.

For the archive, I have discovered these are Metalastik Cushyfloats no 17-1609-45

They are available from a VP dealer at £95 or from Robush at about £45 each. I found then on Ebay for £45 a pair but there was a snag.

I took the vertical stud of the old mounts and tried to screw them into the new. The old mount had a metric fine thread and the new ones a standard metric thread. This necessitated making new studs.

I don't know which thread the ones Robush supply have - I suspect VP may get them made specially just to prevent people doing the same as me

I got my mate to run a coarse metric thread over the fine thread, it works ok, they are still ok after 4 years!

I looked at that thread, but got a bit confused. But Robush have them? Got a part number for the MD22?

Sorry Nigel, I tried to find the invoice, its long gone. I picked mine on the PCD of the holes, the stud diameter and the shore hardness. Be aware the thread is M coarse, VPs are M fine. My mate ran an M coarse thread over the fine threads, it works ok, they are still working! I tried using coarse thread stud bar but the nuts were two thick and bigger across flats so adjusting the height and locking off was a pain.stu
