Volvo Penta DPH a bit milky

Thought I would advance this.
Bought a Laser vacuum/pressure tester, seems a decent enough bit of kit but surprisingly hard work pumping it! Got a m24x1.5 plastic plug and glued a copper pipe into it but that failed at 8psi. A m8 bleed screw sealed with o ring, washer and another o ring works for using the drain plug hole, plastic pipe from the pump attached with a small cable tie.
I had 5l of diesel in it which wouldn't drain until the filler plug was more or less completely out, the threads must make a reasonable seal.
10psi pressure held with the prop shaft in different places and in forward, neutral and reverse for at least an hour in total.
10 psi vacuum held in neutral and with the shaft in different places but within 10min of moving the gear selector down the pressure was zero. Held 10psi pressure in that position ok.
Seems then there is an issue with the gearshift seals. Presumably removing the four screws holding it on lets me remove the mechanism and get about the seals? Anything I need to watch out for taking it off?
I think I would be as well doing the shaft ones as well, any reason I shouldn't?
Should I use Volvo bits or are cheaper parts available that will do fine?

When you remove the gear shift you will see that inside there is a shoe with a spring to push it into the groove in the clutch. Note which way it sits as its slightly off centre, and see my earlier post about stripping it down to replace the seal which only goes in one way as there is a difference in the slot in the seal, it comes with installation instructions, same regarding propshaft seals they have to be oriented correctly, inner seal with spring in and outer seal with spring out. I have only ever used original parts but if you find alternatives make sure the spring is stainless. And use new O rings on the gearshift and prop shaft hub.

Thanks, your information is much appreciated.
Is it worth putting a thin layer of Hylomar on the outside of the seals? Used to do that with the crankshaft front seal on engines when I assembled them.

I never do on drives as I tried it once and the seal slid out when I pressure tested the drive, I just use waterproof grease on the lips. Volvo sell small tubes of blue grease for packbox lubrication which are perfect for the job.
