Hi, my first post here , a Twin ips600 (2010 EVC-D) set up is not feeling well, i noticed its not possible to activate the joystick on the main helm.
could anyone come up with an idea based on this info:

7 inch Display only shows Data from SB Engine, (if I Switch cables from port engine to SB the port engine data is displaying instead , so the data is there but not visible on the 7 inch)
Start of both engines are possible but Autoconfigure has to be done Every time othervise SB engine doesent start. I think the reason SB wont start is that the rudder angle display in this case says (---) instead of the normal zero (0),it happens after every stop and not only when main power is cycled.

Port key(analog keys with AKI:s that both Flashes Green) starts the 7 inch display but after 10-20 seconds the display goes black, Port engine cant keep this alive on its own so something is wrong with how the 7 inch is being powered on from this engine ,The normal beep kan be heard and the engine start and stop is not affected by this so something is alive and working but not all.

After start Gear Engagement is possible on the lever as normal but joystick is not possible to use , the green light on joystick lights up but disappears immediately after the button is released.
"system without Faults" says the 7 inch display in the warnings manager mode.

Have swapped PCU:s and ECU:s on engines without any difference. I have 19,5 Volts from both engines measured in the datalink going into the lever(the boat is 24Volt with the voltage regulation installed 2016 that VP had a recall on cause' they could loose steering)

Could the HCU in the lever be broken and causing this? (The lever is from 2016 and exchanged under warranty) Any info on how to continue troubleshooting? Measure on the HCU pins? my regular VP has no time to look into this until weeks. I suspect the joystick cant be used because the boat "thinks" only one engine is running when both in fact are running, if I could find out why Port is not providing information to the system i think problem will be solved.

best regards Fredrik in Stockholm.

I have replaced a few of the throttle quadrants with the internal HCU, there have been problems with these. The best solution is to get a Vodia connected up to see what the system is seeing as regard the various helm positions, and to determine is it an HCU failure or a connection problem before buying any parts.

thanks spannerman, I understand vodia is essential to getting a solution to this but il keep checking connections and everything meanwhile

Hello all readers of this post, The resolution to this was that my NEW EVC Control lever, (Twin throttle control) Was Faulty. The control lever was installed by my local VP man and he told me of other things like pcu:s HCU:s were faulty and never suspected the new lever to be faulty and suggested other expensive parts to be swapped, but in the end I could proof by lending a friends Control lever that the my new one was faulty and causing my boat to be inoperable by the joystick docking mode. Beware of these controlevers as they seem to be fragile.

If you fit a duff part to a customers air con, would they be justified in saying you are no good ? It happens.
I did not say anything, having deleted most of what I was going to say (hence the edit), as it only comes across as being negative / opportunist. But as you have dangled your bait, I will take it ...

I especially did not accuse anyone nor any party at all specifically, as you have eluded to, in my statement "Least said ..." but the very essence of this thread sets out the sort of problems this system could develop, and in fact did mention that in fact the OP himself diagnosed his problem when the VP engineer could / did not, as an alternative to a solution of fault diagnosis by changing this (expensive) bit and then that.

I do not think a post like this in anyway at all bolsters the positive statements being made about IPS on the other current thread re what happens when IPS gets a bit older.

Basicly the same if you compare same evc generation but programmed different if ips twin /aquamatic/shaft, some have trimbutton and the newest has Buttons for the new Humphree system trim tabs. I can start and drive My ips600 twin with a lever configured for a twin D4 260 aquamatic setup, just autoconfigure and start in My case, shouldent work acording to vp. Used levers are available around 1000pounds with warranty around 3 months . New lever is around 3200 pounds

I’ve just deleted standard, analog throttles on our new caramaran and optioned fly by wire at the upper and lower helm...£7k...so it’s not just a Volvo scam! :)

If either play up in the first 5 years I’d expect an foc replacement at that price!

Not been in funny or negative I hope ?
But I mentioned on the other thread my neighbour s had a torrid time with ips 400 on his Sessa 42 .
Last week -no kidding a tech turned up with new throttle body and a jot stick in nice blue boxes .
The old ones were placed on the rear sun pad ( for most of the morning ) so I had a good gander f them .
After the sea trail later in the day it parked ok but then the now two tech,s started to lean over the Stb side .There was a plume of oil slick cum diesel spilage rainbow effect at the stern Stb side .
Something oilly hydraulic fluid , g box ( drive ) oil was NOW leaking .

So they opened up the engine room. Lifting the rear tender garage on its ram .
It stayed open with various comings and goings for a week .
We went out every day ,but the techies were there 9 am sharp
Our dog barks at them

Saw a guy with a sealant gun diving into the E room grunting and groaning then restarting the Stb engine - hanging heads over the side looking for leakage presume ?

Earlier on a week before this drama ,a tech turned up with a lap top.
Presume his diagnosis lead to the new controls ?

Out of 4 weeks on our boat we went out every day except just one .
Inc 5 days in Italy .
I witnessed this work next door in the mornings -dog alerted by techies and surprisingly in the evenings ,they work to about 6 pm .

People like me as an outside observer can only hopefully impartially report what i saw ----- draw your own conclusion s .

Last y a guest arrived on a Azimut 43 from port Grimaud .
English ,one day passes ,second ,3rd etc .
Wife strikes up a conversation with "Mrs AZ " over marina laundry etc .
Later on we are sat drinking Rose on there boat .
Yup broken down awaiting repairs IPS woes .Its was there 1st boat .
On leg gears crunched .
Provisional Dx was either busted seal or under water strike .
Either way it happened on day 3 out of 14 and it was now approaching 1week in
Bloke wanted to sell it -fed up despite warranty this was not the first time it broke down and VP were quibbling over the cause -trying to blame an underwater strike on the gear crunch .
Bloke was in contact with insurers ---- mega hassle as confusion of how to lift it ,get it to. Hoist .etc

He was not very tech minded just trusted VP and the dealer .New boat

I always look on the bright side Trevor, without these issues we wouldn't have a job .
