Hi all,
I am the owner of the boat with Volvo Penta D4 DPH 260 diesel engine and I am experiencing the throttle mode error which is by free will activating and deactivating many times while operating in neutral gear.
While the boat is driving I can see on the throttle stick that the Green Neutral icon is flashing but not sounding the alarm. Once we shift from driving to Neutral gear the alarm starts to beep many times and the engine is not allowing us to shift forward or backward which is giving us a hard time and is putting the boat in danger as we are unable to dock safely for instance. So the engine is activating and deactivating the throttle mode on and off without pressing the N button. It stops after some time and at that point, we can shift forward and backward again.
We spoke with local service and as per their knowledge, the problem is located in the shift/throttle lever!
Now my question is why is this happening as the lever seems in excellent condition even after taking it apart and no corrosion is visible except a little bit on the small electric board where N button is located. I cleaned the board and even cleaned the N button which seemed in excellent condition so I am more to believe that problem is located somewhere else.
The shifting cable from the Actuator also seems ok even so it's is 10 years old..is smooth still and it was lubricated a bit before the season.
We experienced the same issue at the end of last season and this year everything was ok for a month time until the problem started from mid-air and it started badly. As I said shifting cable was lubricated a bit and the throttle lever was taken apart and cleaned completely.
Really can't figure out the bottom of the problem so if anyone experienced the same problems please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you and regards from Croatia.
