Well you put your finger on it. It's only 57 engines and 2 hrs work so it's not going to cost them much to 'fess up. But if it was 5700 engines and 2 days, you can bet they'd stay schtum and let the customer pay
Volvo also have problems with their 3.0 engine carbs. as with the D3, the carbs are suffering from the incorrect alloy being used in the carb casting. There is an recall posted on tne Volvo website.
Couple of years ago I had 2 injector pipes split within an hours of each other, engines were 4 years old but less than 200hrs. The extruded alloy was clearly defective and from a bad batch, showed them to a Volvo dealer and he said it was unheard of, however several forumites reported the same thing at the time. I can only conclude that Volvo cut some corners with cost of materials sometimes, but get away with it because leisure engines do so few hours during the warrentry period.
