Hi Folks,

Having an issue with the D3 again. But is up for seasonal maintenance and was started 2 weeks ago with no problems. We have recently changed main starting and alternator cables as they have corroded which just last week caused a total dead start ( no electricity going to the EVC or engine). Thats replaced and now electrical is fine. However boat cranks, but wont start. As you can see on the video the engine seems to not want to stay on.

Things checked:
-Air in system (the pump becomes hard and when bled, no bubbles are coming out)
- All 5 injectors seems to give OK pressure (checked from the return rails)
-Main engine fuses OK
-Aux stop function OK
-Fuel Lines
-Racor filter replaced and also OK in terms of flow
-Fuel filter OK and rather new
-Throttle actuator also seems OK
-Diesel tank (was recently cleaned and flushed-and we put in new diesel yesterday)

We have had the System Electrical Fault on the EVC since for long, but that never really stopped the boat from running well. This time also Engine Electrical Fault appeared as well.

Anyone been through the same?

Thank you and appreciate your thoughts!

Put it in OEM mode to find out the actual code.

For example on mine:
Press the "-" (minus) button for 5-7 sec until it beeps, then press wheely button for OEM mode.
After that twiddle to select faults.

But different EVC versions have different procedures.
I'm not sure what the procedure is if you have the controller with the arrows.

Could be:

"If you want to get into OEM mode to see your error codes produced by engine, do as follows:
1. Turn on ignition key, do not start engine
2. press right arrow button (hold down), release before welcome text
3. press left arrow button twice
4. press right arrow button
and you should be able to find OEM mode and FAULTS"

You have to have later generation with display in rev counter or the very expensive display shown upper right in the pic .

The fault sounds like a poor connection maybe due to disturbing the loom when fitting parts

Hi FlowerPower,

Thanks for the info!
Ive trie your instuctions but it was no success. As soon as you turn the ignition, I only have a bout 1 second before the welcome text saying VOLVO PENTA shows up. I will make a video and post the link here. Is there any other method? I belive I have the EVC-MC.

Hi Paul!
Thanks for the input. I am thinking the same because diesel seems to flow where in general. Have you had such experience? Any prticular part/area within the electric box to look out for?

Hey,
No, nothing similar, just thought if you wanted to cross check anything give me a shout.
Hope you find it!
Like volvopaul says it does sound like a connection issue

Hi Folks!

Update, she started now. The culprit as a grounding cable to the alternator. Just disconnected, sanded the connection a little bit, connected again, and she started. Weird... and the cable/connector was in fairly decent shape.

Thanks for the inputs!
