Same as a very recent question about a D2-40

Undo the nut, recover the washer and pull the gear off with a suitable puller .

When refitting tap the gear onto the taper and the then tighten the nut firmly. It relies on the taper alone to transmit the drive.

Before you ask I do not know the torque for the retaining nut but it might be in the workshop manual

If it is a Nyloc nut a new one might be advisable

I can't find anything in the manuals (or articles) covering servicing of any water pump with a gear on a tapered shaft in regards to torque settings.

This article is the nearest I can find

Quick Update on Torquing Prop Nutsi

"Install the small, half-height jam nut first—against the hub. Tighten it up as hard as you comfortably can by hand with a standard wrench. Then, screw on the full-size nut and tighten that down independently—again, as hard as you comfortably can, by hand with a standard-size wrench.”

That’s it. If the wrench you use is the standard size for the nut you are tightening, this works fine.

Thank you for that. I've tightened it back up and will refit the pump tomorrow. Makes me chuckle to think I read a post on here about another older volvo water pump and the owner said it's a 25 min job to replace the seals. Progress has led to the later engine being a lot harder to work on. As to be expected.
