So, the wiring diagrams are below:

Note, the switch is in the negative of the house batteries... wait... so the engine is always live?

Or am I reading that wrong?

There are only two cables coming from the engine battery negative, one to the domestic negative and another to the battery charger. Therefore, the engine negative must be on the busbar and the isolator isolates all circuits.
