Volvo penta D1-30 dipstick popped out

Just changed the oil, new filter . Same oil, same filter. Running sweet. Ran this morning for 3 hours .then sailed for three hours. Engine back on to run up the Harbour . Just cleaning up and found to my horror oil all over the engine. Dipstick sticking out about a inch. Is there a breather that could've blocked . Could it be I hadn't pushed it fully home ? Crank pressure ?

Most likely you did not push the dipstick home fully .........I've done it on one of my cars .... twice!

There is a pressure controlled crankcase breather system.
From the workshop manual:



The parts list show a filter, #51, in the system inside the top cover but I see no mention of inspecting, cleaning or replacing this as a routine service task. Something to look at perhaps when the cover is removed to check the valve clearances on a 500hour / 2year service
