My sea water impeller is not sucking any water any suggestions I have replaced the rubber impeller Volvo penta aq140

there is a VP accessory to allow a separate water inlet rather than through the leg which would allow a water stainer and seacock to be fitted just to annoy you

I’ve known sea strainers on more modern installations with outdrives…but on this particular set up, a sea strainer (in the form of an internal engine room situated sea strainer) and certainly a sea cock would be a rare thing and not the norm. No big deal, I suppose. I’m sure the fella posting the question can confirm what they have soon.

My D6 has a strainer but no seacock. My friend's KAD sometimes doesn't pick up seawater but has a strainer so you can prime it then it draws water. Pump body and/or cover worn?

Sounds like your friend needs a new impeller or sea strainer lid seal ? Or it’s drawing air somewhere perhaps ?

According to the mechanic it is just something they do occasionally, normally if it has been lying a while or been out the water. Point is I wondered if the one this thread is about needed priming.

You could be right. But if that’s the case…something is wrong and causing that. Just like your friends, most likely. Terrible to hear that the guy looking after it has suggested it’s normal.
