The AQ105 is based on the Volvo B20 engine that was fitted to various Volvo cars in the 1970s and 1980s . The 140 series and i think some of the 240series (although maybe not in the UK in the 240series)

It ought to be possible to clean up the points and refinish the contact surfaces but if not a sypathetic car parts shop should be able to help (NOT Halfords) Take the old ones in and explain you think that the points for a B20A fitted to a Volvo 140 might fit. (also pretty ceratin that they are the same as for the B21A fitted to 240 models)

The same will apply to the condenser (rarely fail but sometimes they do) and to the coil.

Even so parts for cars from the 1970s wont be so easy to find.

maybe a Volvo car dealers will be able to help but probably as expensive as a Volvo Penta agent.

No suggestions to make about the air filter.

Hi There,
I know exactly what you are going through when it comes to parts, I've got an AQ115, tad difficult to track things down.
As Vic said, look at car suppliers, I know I needed a new distributor and managed to track down a nice new model from a car place that specialized in, shall we say vintage cars /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

When you say air filter, do you mean flame arrestor, ie metal mesh?

There is a guy at costal rides called Paul who's very helpful for second hand parts, although they are second hand, the gear I've got from them has been in good nick.

Also, anything to do with carbs, speak with southern carburetors.

Also, it may be handy if your engine is based on the B20 to look on ebay/amazon for a volvo car manual, I picked up a 2nd hand one for a tenner.

Also, I'm not sure if you've seen this site but it's quite handy.

A word to the wise, be careful when replacing electrical components on marine engines for parts made for cars, things such as starters, alternators, disributors, engine room fans etc are not spark proof , whereas those made for boats have to meet coastguard/safety regs in connection with petrol engines in boats.
The distributor on marine engines has wire mesh in the vent holes to act as a flame arrestor and usually a gasket under the cap to keep out petrol vapour.
If you ever saw an old 80's Renault engine running in the dark you would see the ring of high voltage sparks inside the semi-translucent cap used by Renault back then as the rotor arm spun round delivering power to the plug leads, its present in all dizzy caps you just can't see it on most.

I have two of these B20 engines, and am able to buy all the parts I need from a company called Brookhouse Volvo, tel 01473218806. Simon knows what he is doing and their mail order service is good.
