Does anyone know what the idle speed should be set at for this engine?
A friend's got one on a Hardy 24 fishing boat and it idles at about 800rpm. Just wondered if this is correct as the boat speed is fairly high when idleing in gear.

I've got KAD 32s on mine and they tickover at around 600. Don't know about yours but may be similar. However, duo props really move the boat along briskly at around 5 knots in tickover - on mine anyway so when close quartering, we need to knock her in and out of gear as 'in gear' is too fast. Hope this helps but later in the week you will get oodles of answers from some who will know more. Roy

Thanks guys.

Next question, where is the adjuster on that engine? I guess I can find it, possibly by trial and error but a quick pointer in the right direction is sooooo much easier.

Re: Just for reference.

Going by the general concensus, 800 is too high. Now if someone can tell me where the adjustment is to save me trawling through the manual..................

the book sez.

According to my book,on the top of the pump there is a small adjusting screw which acts against the lever on top of the unit.It is nearest to the engine block and is sort of under a fuel pipe which ends in a banjo connector.
My book states 600-700 rpm when warm and under no load.It also warns (In Swedish)for the unskilled not to twiddle./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
Ps my idle speed on my boat is set a bit low it would appear.

Re: the book sez.

Thanks for all the replies gents. Had a look at it today and got it down to 650, which it seems happy at. Took a while to get it adjusted, mostly due to the long walks back to the van for more tools. I could get a spanner on the lock nut but couldn't get a turn on it so ended up having to dig out the trusty 1/4" socket set. The paint on the adjuster was untouched from new so I guess they are either set up a bit higher at the factory for running in purposes or the revs have increased as the engine has loosened up a bit.

"...or the revs have increased as the engine has loosened up a bit. "

...and its never been properly serviced since new??? Reset of the idle speed is a basic 1st service item for most engines that don't do it themselves for exactly this reason.

Always appeared to me that all thames boaters thought that 20 knots was a slow crawl.
