Volvo Penta AD41 Engine Mounts

Sorry, I should have mentioned it does it out of gear also, but could well be the UJ or damper plate I guess.
If you do suspect the UJ then the sooner it is checked the better as it can be an expensive repair if it fails
does increasing the load on the UJ by running with steer hard over or more potentially have the leg raised whilst running making any difference?

The UJ sometimes makes a ‘rattling stones in a can’ noise when at full lock in one direction but I always assumed that the steering was over traveling somehow. I should really determine which drive it is and if the same side as the vibration take a look at it asap like you say.

You’d hear a knocking noise if it was the UJ usually. Could be a gimbal bearing perhaps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Now you mention it the previous owners replaced that UJ due to water ingress in 2019 so there’s every chance the bearing is now damaged. Are they known to cause vibration when damaged? Is it relatively straight forward to replace once the drive is out of the way?

Sound like it could be. You occasionally need to either buy or make a removal tool. A sliding hammer type arrangement.
