You probably all seen this question a million times but......

I'm in the process of buying a cruiser with the above engine in, i'm told by a friend that someone out there may be able to tell me where to get spare parts eg. filters etc. without paying volvo prices.

hope this makes sense as i've never done this before either.

Oil filters and the like from any car shop, for other things for yanky engines, Real Steel in uxbridge and the other volvo marine parts go to Keypart in watford.

Do not buy oil filters from a car source, they may look the same but they are not. The valve system inside is different. Although the motor is a Chevrolet, as used in their passenger vehicles, quite a lot of the parts are designed for a marine application. A circulating pump may look identical, but will not have a bronze impeller and a stainless backplate. Boating is dear enough without wasting money on inferior spares. Besides, I think you will find that the cost of service parts aren't that bad.

The best source for genuine parts is probably Keyparts in Watford. Should you require internal components, then do buy them from the car suppliers, but first do your research.

Having had the same engine in my Princess 25.I can confirm that Keyparts is one of the best sources of spares.Sensible prices and quick delivery.

You will of course like me be very disappointed to find no section on the best boat in the world up and running yet.ie.The Princess 33.(This is blatant dig at Boatone) in case he reads this in any spare moment when he is not repairing his boat..

The volvo is fresh water cooled and does use the same water pump. There is no "valve" in the oil filter. There is a spring baffle plate. The filters are made by coopers for volvo and also badged TJ and Fram. I know the coopers rep!
