Hello All,
I have a Sealine 22 sports with a single Volvo Penta AQ175A V6 engine and 290 outdrive.
I think there’s a problem with the reverse lock/retaining pawl. Scratch that – I KNOW there is :).
The revlock won’t engage. Out of the water, I can put the boat into reverse (engine off) and lift the leg with my hand. It also lifted when under power in reverse in the water.
I’ve heard that the “hooks” can wear and slip off the bar they latch onto, but it won’t even try to latch, in fact if I try to move it from “unlatched” with my hand, it’s stuck solid. The bar that hooks onto the gear selector shaft (the bit with two triangular plates you see when you’re stood behind the boat with the outdrive cover off) is bent and loose, I assume when someone tried to force it into reverse, so I guess it’s pretty solid. Any advice?
Is there a common fault that causes this, or am I going to have to try and find a decent second-hand mechanism?
Thanks,
Dan

PS This is likely to be the first of many questions, so thanks in advance for the others I’m lining up!

You might be better posting on Motor Boat Forum for answer.

Hi,crofty, yes you want to post this on MoBo chat, however having had a lot of experience with that work of the devil AKA outdrives, you may well find the little retaining springs that hold the latch down when reversing have poss broken or latch is not adjusted correctly.

Anywho fraid a lift out and check.
You can buy a little kit to fix..... but being VILVO it is going to cost...bout £100 quid if memory serves me,I only needed the springs,so £50 per 2" spring...bargain eh :)
Doubt very much you find secondhand bits.
