Can anyone tell me where I can get the torque settings for replacing the head back onto a Volvo Penta 2002, plus what the valve clearances should be?

Hoping to replace my head gasket and decoke the engine this coming weekend! Should be fun with a capital F!

Thanks in advance

Sorry cant help with you settings. You will need to buy a VP Engine workshop manual from your local dealer. We bought one last year for about 20 pounds for the same reason. Shows the correct sequence for the bolts to be tightening down on the head. torques settings etc.

Our 2040 torques settings were:- 1st 30 Nm, 2nd 70Nm, 3rd 95 Nm,

Valve clearance cold:- 0.20mm

But will be differnt for your engine

Hope every thing goes well

According to my manual, the cylinder head should be torqued up first to 20Nm, then further tightened to 70Nm. Valve clearances (cold) should be 0.3mm.

You should tighten the cylinder head bolts in the correct sequence - there's a diagram in the manual. You can download a workshop manual from here. There's lots of useful info in the manual, so you'd be well advised to have a look at it before you start. Good luck!
