Volvo Penta 2002 and that sinking feeling

Yesterday I was somewhat alarmed to see water splashing over the floor boards in the cabin. To cut a long story short a sea water pipe on the engine had become dislodged and was spraying an impressive amount of water into the engine compartment. The pipe emanates from the heat exchanger and via a hose to the vacuum / anti-syphon valve. From Google searching it seems that some of these water pipes have a round rubber seal fitted and are simply a push fit. Is that right and would that be case for this pipe. Grateful for any help.

They are normally a push fit with a rubber as you say. But they would also have a "V" clamp attached with a bolt to hold it on.

It seems some pipes have clamps and some don't! However this diagram is the fresh water system so is not specific on my pipe.

Long keeper is correct

a lot of the pipes on this range are held in place by tension whilst others such as this one will have a clamp
the VP electronic parts catalog that I have access to appears to have lost the 2000 series so I can’t identify your pipe which will probably be an accessory
I would suggest that you check for signs of the pipe being restrained otherwise you are actually ra ther lucky it has stayed in place this long

Select 2002 from the schematics list and navigate to the heat exchanger diagram under cooling system

The pipe you show is the last item on the parts list, # 22 hose connection (when a vacuum valve is fitted), part no 840907
It requires sealing ring #17, part no. 829714 to connect it to the heat exchanger

Thanks for link VicS fig 22 is a bit misleading whilst it is clearly the pipe required it looks straight which would depend on where the authors cut off is there Are no ridges on the original elbow which looks like an authentic VP piece

There are two part # 22 on the list .

There is the one used when there is no vacuum valve ( anti-syphon valve) and connects directly to the pump. Tthe other is the one in your picture used when there is a a vacuum valve.
They are both shown in the diagram here as #35 and #18 respectively

My Volvo EPC has moved the 2000 series int the drives section which is why I could not find it but your marine parts Europe seem to be a better option

I dont know but I wondered .
If its missing and the pipes fall out definitely something to look into.

VicS - Thanks so much for the links and the benefit of your knowledge. I had been searching for such diagrams but I couldn't find them for the 2002. I suspect that I might have been on the VP US website rather than the European version. It's difficult to be sure from these schematic drawings but I am hoping that part no 840746 (cap) is the retainer for this fitting and the pipe above. I will be ordering the sealing ring and a new pipe (might as well change it). I won't be buying from VP though. Parts 4 engines have equivalents. Next week I will be removing the alternator to give access to this area and will report back here for anyone interested. Thanks again.
