Volvo Penta 2002 alarm panel.

Can somebody help. The alarm panel on my Volvo penta 2002 has a push button instead of a key, it also has a alarm test button that sets off the audible alarm when pressed.With the "ignition", button pressed the alarm lights light and the engine not running the audible alarm is silent. I assume that if an alarm occurs with the engine running that the electronics sound the audible alarm. Can any body tell me how this panel works? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2003 whicj I think works on the same principle, the alarm sounds if smething is wrong but not when ignition is turned on.. I remember mine the alarm only went once when the engine overheated due to a mulfunction of the water pump
