I have an oil leak which I am having difficulty locating. When the engine is running oil is appearing in the small window of the fly wheel casing (close to the bottom of the fly wheel) on the right side of the engine. The engine has a saildrive attcahed to it. The amount appears significant, has anyone any ideas of what may be causing it ??

First guess would be the crankshaft rear oil seal, but there is insufficient detail in the workshop manual to be any more certain.

I take it that it's engine oil and not gearbox oil.

If it is that seal you would have to separate engine and gear box remove the flywheel and its housing. I dont know the implications of the sail drive as I have no experience of them. Also look at the manual to see if the sump has to come off, hopefully not.

workshop manual HERE

Thanks for the reply and service book. I am hoping I might get away running the boat-and topping up the oil this season and taking the engine out during the back end.
