I want to get the service parts for two engines. I wouldnt bother hunting about for just one item, but is anywhere cheaper than the rest or is it all much of a muchness?
Oil, oil filters, drive belts, air filters, fuel filters are all available from good motor factors at a fraction of the cost of Volvo parts.
Impellers can be obtained very reasonably from www.aquapart.co.uk
If you mean mechanical bits and parts for outdrives etc, they're more specialised and the other recommendations listed above will steer you in the right direction.
It's ALWAYS worth looking around and finding good suppliers IMHO..
I'd agree with the last post, buy run of the mill service items from a motor factor, example VP duplex v belts for an ad41 £19 odd + vat, motor factor £3.50 inc vat, Volvo don't make belts, they just have their name stamped on them and charge the earth! but when you read their write up about their belts they are super duper Kevlar impregnated with added widgets and tested to 3 million newton meters of torque and will out last the non Volvo product by about seven light years! yeah right! oil and fuel filters fall into the same category.
is this considered slanderous?
VP can sue me then, if they can find me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Buy cheap buy twice, i wonder why they are so cheap,ah so what they only keep my engines running @ the right temps what harm can it do!!!!!?????regards m m 1

Yes it's always worrying when something is that much cheaper. Afterall, anyone can squirt rubber into a mould in some far eastern factory.
I guess if other forumites have had no problems then I might just have a go although I must admit I'm not totally comfortable.
ok small update..
it seems you can make real savings on non Volvo parts against Volvo parts, but otherwise, looking through past service invoices, and looking at approved Volvo web prices.. there aint alot of saving to be had...maybe 10-15pct. Of course on a filter that costs £12 ... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Daresay if you are buying something that costs £1000 its a bit more exciting.
Two very good pages though were http://www.motortechmarine.co.uk/ https://vault2.secured-url.com/volspec/parts.php?manf=1
