I have an old (1981) Sunseeker Offshore 28' fitted with twin Volvo diesels powering duoprop outdrives. I understand that originally she would have been fitted with single prop outdrives and an electric adjustment mechanism. The duoprops fitted I believe would have had an hydraulic lifting mechanism. Apparently the two systems were incompatible but the previous owner obviously believed the benefits of the duoprops outweighed the drawbacks of non-adjustable legs. The original helm controls that are fitted merely serve to release the locks allowing the legs to kick up. What would I require to make the legs adjustable as originally intended? Can it even be done? Any valid views on this would be appreciated. The boat otherwise goes well and rises onto the plane with ease. Are the trim tabs fitted an acceptable substitute for the lack of leg adjustment?

thanks again

if the original drives were 280 series then they would have lift units only operated by electric motors

the later drives 290 on later designated named dp** have hydraulic trims

the only difference between sp single porop and dp dua props are in the lower units

a exchange option to replace the sp lower unit with dua props hase been available for some time

the actual trim mechanism is fitted between the shield unit on the stern of the boat and the drive unit
a hybrid power trim version of the 280 was called the 280 pt but was not carried on to the 290

Thanks for the info scottie, you obviously know your outdrives! Can I get them to work or not? how difficult a task will it be? and would it be worth it? Hlb would seem to agree that it wouldn't be...

Has anyone any suggestions for a decent workshop manual for these legs? something with pictures etc? maybe even one for sale or even a photocopy

Cheers

My outdrives worked perfectly well with fixed trim tabs. With movable ones would be a luxurey. Why want more??

My present boat and the one before had the 280T version of the legs single prop version. As far as I can tell the only manual available (from Volvo @ 30.00 quid)cover the std 280 or 290 in the same book and you have make as guess or two about the differences in the hydraulic lift system. All bits are available from either V****o or the ever helpfull Keyparts.
Go to Boatones Volvo Penta abusers web site for more info.

And here is the weekend weather..

Certainly covers the 280T in my Seloc manual, not in any great depth (neithers anything else) but has diagrams and how the electrics are wired.

Mines the standard Seloc one for the Volvo Penta Stern Drives 68-91, came from KeyPart number (011-x)3600, £ 20.
Text mentions 280T with differences from others and has diagrams at back of power wiring.
Not sure about Boat Jumble, U going?
