So, want to order some split pins to have as spare.....

On the DP-G, I (badly) measured....
For the gear linkage / gear cable.... 0.5mm (diameter)
For the trim rams... 1mm (diameter)

Can't seem to find any 0.5mm diameter online and thinking about it, 0.5mm seems tiny, I surely made a mistake?

Gear linkage ones are tiddly little brass ones, ram ones are beefier stainless ones.(or at least they are on dpe drives)
Both available from keypart
Thanks for that tico.

You are spot on re. material.

I would just like to buy in bulk. Mainly for myself and secondarily, given that in our club, i'm so often asked "Hey... any Split pins in your locker?!".... might as well have them to hand!

I get you on the spares side. I bought a spares box of O-rings and split pins for that same reason, although the split pins where by chance. I was looking for lengths of automotive wire in Halfords and there was this box of stainless splitpins in assorted sizes ~ 200 piece for a bargain price. Probably sitting stock but worth a look round.

Yes. Thats what I primarily use them for. They are not brass, mine are SS (see edit above) but have had no corrosion problems with the brass fittings. The biggest ones are thinner than those that go into the drive pins but mine are so tight I honestly think it makes zero difference. They're not coming out either way

You’re not seriously going for Halfords mild steel split pins for your drives which live in salt water!!!

The ones I purchased are very definitely stainless steel and not shiny mild steel. Even if you were inexperienced and couldnt tell the difference by sight you can by strength. And the fact they dont show rust after being in the sea for 12 months. People too easily dismiss some of the quality stuff they have because they are a chain, but apart from a cheap bike I dont think I've ever bought outright rubbish there.

edit

Oh yes. There is a isle for boy racers that is filled with complete tat. But hell, we were all 18 once.

I came here asking for the DIMENSIONS of the split pins, which I was provided with, hence thanking BruceK.

I have a local engineering firm that I can now get those bits and pieces from.

On a side note, my boat is used on fresh water!!
