I appreciate this concerns a saily boat and I am not sure if you guys have seen this before......but I thought you might like to see this. They lost both rudders. Shows what happens if you hit something hard at c20kts.

A loose translation seems to be: Gentlemen, we appear to have strayed onto a non-watery section. It's possible that some of the marks won't polish out.

If I understood correctly, the navigator missed the last details of the reef on his electronic charts due to not zooming in enough. Easy to loose the scale of things on a massive ocean and silly human errors can occur even among the more experienced it seems. I can feel his disappointment though...

As an aside, I downloaded the Volvo Ocean Race iPad -app and highly recommend it. It provides live results as well as vids and pics from along the way. It's really captivating to follow their progress. Thanks, P, for the pointer to the VOR, I had somehow missed it earlier.
