Hi,
I'm in the middle of some fairly extensive work cleaning the cooling systems of both engines (TAMD40s).

It suddenly struck me that I've never done anything with the coolers of the gearboxes, other than change anodes.

Is there a cooler matrix that should be cleaned in the MS3 gearbox? If there is, what's the right way to go about cleaning it?

Cheers,
Paul

There is a cover to the right side looking fwd held with four bolts with a rubber hose at the top. Inside are two tube stack elements that might require an occasional descale.

I have an overhaul manual for the MS3B box if you want more info.

Thanks Superheat. I think I must have a 'c' version of the box. The cooler on mine is mounted horizontally and it's not clear how to get to the tube stack. Looking on line the B has a more straightforward vertical tubstack with an end cover accessible from the top of the box.

Cheers,
Paul

You could try plugging the outlet then filling with rydlyme or I find B&Q powder descaler works very well. Unlikely to damage the seals, but I would remove the anodes first.
