I've ended up changing my engine from a mdb2 to a mdb11,
I'm being told by a boat yard that I they need a wiring loom to match which will cost 3-500 pounds. can you help with information please.

Seems a bit expensive; a vintage '70s engine like the MD11 is unlikely to need any wiring other than that for the alternator and the starter; calling it a loom is a bit paisley pyjamas if you ask me. A good sparky should be able to sort out the wiring for an hour's labour and few bits of wire. If you did the engine swap yourself, attempting the wiring shouldn't be beyond you. There are plenty of good books offering sound advice on the subject; I find the 'Boatowner's mechanical & electrical manual' by Nigel Calder very good, but there are many other titles on the subject.

cheers,
David

I've got an MD17C, only bit which might cost any more than a bit of wire is the control panel.
Without that I'd have to spend a few quid on guages and an ignition switch.
I've seen complete engines with wiring attached going for less than £500!

I have an MD11C handbook and service manual. The SM has a wiring diagram (which doesn't exactly match my original installation anyway!) and which is very simple. If you want a copy just PM me.

I can't imagine that any sparky couldn't sort it out without breaking a sweat. Forget the wiring loom.

IMHO your "boat yard" is taking the pi$$ BIG time. Get someone else in to do the wiring - I believe there are one or two "professional" "marine" leckies on the forum that might help you out.
