Volvo MD7A - Gearbox repairs/parts

I am trying to help out a friend with a Volvo MD7A and an (as yet) unidentifiable gearbox, poss MS (serial number: to follow ).
The issue is a broken component which meant it got stuck in forward gear.
I have attached a photo of the part, although it does not show the actual break.
Any knowledge of where to find individual parts or repairers would be a great help.

The boat is based in the Langstone/Hayling area.

Another question which might be easier to answer is: I have a vague recollection that there is a local gentleman who is a Volvo expert, not a VP dealer. If any of you good forumites has any info. Greatly appreciated .

I myself have some limited knowledge of the MD series but not this.

If you are in need of Gearbox repairs, ordinary automotive repair guys can often repair the marine boxes, cheaper and better than the marine specialists that can be found in some places...

(My friend had this exact experience. In his case after losing a seasons sailing a local gearbox guy a few yards from his home repaired his VP transmission with parts that were supplied to him by the local Volvo Penta agent..) whilst the parts were not cheap the overall cost was not at marine rates...

It's a fairly simple system, with an off-centre rotating part moving the dog to select forward or reverse. Which bit is actually broken? Some parts are still available.

Which bit is broken? The dog?
If so its £128 from Volspec

From what he tells me about the picture it is the dog. The break being just left of the spring. I can't make out exactly where but great ideas and leads so
thank you both for your help, much appreciated.
