VOLVO MD7 Fuel return hose - Other owners ?

I realise this is a very old thread but I am about to dive into replacing this very hose and came across it in my search for info.

I have taken in all of the above an that's been helpful. I just have a question about removing the retaining screw from the banjo. As it was mentioned the screw appears to be a very close fit under the heat exchanger. I'm worried there is not enough space to remove it without also having to remove the heat exchanger above.

So MengWalton I'm interested t hear how it went for you? Were you able to remove the screw easily or did it also require the removal of the heat exchanger?

I guess something like this

You could secure the hose neattlywith a single or double ear clamp (If it was your car it would be just pushed on with no clamp !)
I had a very scary experience in my twenties (many years ago!), driving an old Ford Anglia; driving along in slow-moving traffic I could get a strong smell of petrol, so I pulled in and opened the bonnet, to discover that the fuel supply hose had slipped off the carbuerettor and was pumping petrol all over the engine, as it was still running on the contents of the float chamber. I immediately pushed it back on and waited until all the petrol had evaporated, before diverting to the nearest motor factors to buy a suitable hose clip.

check Which fuel system you are working on as there is not normally a heat exchanger on MD7A
Yes not a heat exchanger. That just reflects my non-mechanic knowledge / ability. The part that I see as potentially causing an issue when trying to remove the banjo is labeled "exhaust pipe" and is part No1 in this diagram

I haven't attempted to remove the screw yet but just looking at it it appears to me that as it winds out it is going to be obstructed by the "exhaust pipe". There really isn't much clearance. So I'm really just wanting to confirm if that is the case or not. If the exhaust pipe also has to come off to remove the banjo and fit a replacement fuel line it's a much more involved job.

Best search parts lists using engine number to spec

the 7A and 7b are shown separately as they are different
the earlier stages in this post strayed into MD2B country

Hi Mattm14

Did you manage to remove the return line without dismantling the exhaust pipe? I'm facing the exact same problem now :-/
