Volvo MD3 Engine

I have a Volvo MD3 engine with 3022 hours (c1976 vintage). It seems to be going perfectly well at the moment (does produce a bit of blue/white smoke) but compression etc. seems fine. I need a reliable engine and am wondering whether to change it. Does anyone have a view - should I keep it and do some heavy re-working of it? Should I buy something new? Is there a good workshop type manual for it I can get hold of? Will it in fact keep going on for ever as I have been told?

Use white diesel (the same that for cars. Red diesel have lower quality) and see if the colour in the smoke disappear. For winter lay up white diesel have anti bug product and is not corrosive (fill the tank). Do a good maintenance (oil, filters...) and do not rework the engine if the engine is not broke.
