Volvo MD22L cambelt change - Plymouth area ?

Thanks everyone. I cant seem to find a pm function anywhere so will guess I dont get that for a bit. I joined the forum having read another thread a few weeks ago about this very subject from some years ago and it talked about removing the crank pulley even though in the workshop manual it didnt mention it. If I dont need to, I wont. This engine has excellent side and rear access from removable panels either side and behind, but to get to the front is a case of lying across the top of it and working from above/behind/at a strange angle. I'm 57 and not as bendy as I used to be so had concluded doing the job myself might end up with the fire brigade removing me from the engine bay. All that said though, I'd like to have a go. I'll phone Stu shortly and give him my email....

PM’s become available once you’ve made a few more posts.

Where in Plymouth? I am retired now but willing to attend and provide some moral support and knowledge. Problem is most of the boatyards know me and are suspicious when I am around that I am doing on the "black"

She lives at Mayflower. I already asked our resident marine engineer (who I've known for 16 years) and he/they subcontract the job to local Volvo agent. So I dont think I'll be upsetting anyone

The job is very easy if you are mec. minded its simple to feel how tight the belt should be. The biggest problem is the lack of space getting to the front of the engine. Use loctight on the nuts afterwards.

There is a Haynes manual dedicated to the Perkins variant of this engine, I had one but let it go with the last boat (Perkins Prima 50). Possibly worth looking out for for future reference even if too late for this job. I see you’re Plymouth area, I got my copy of the manual from Trago.
