The gear lever mechanism on my MD11C has developed a lot of play when selecting between forward and reverse (and visa versa). When I am in forward and I put the lever back for the reverse, the lever travels about 80 degrees before it engages with the reverse. I think this play is a bit excessive. I made an attempt to take it apart but it appears to be a "sealed" unit, and looking at schematics on google, looks like the sealed unit has a gear shaft inside, perhaps the gears have worn down???. Can I get a replacement; where from? any other suggestion please?, thank you in advance.20180805_104713.jpg20180805_104754.jpg

That is a standard morse control mechanism in the photo and it is unlikely there is any wear in it that would cause the problem you describe. It is much more likely to be on the gearbox end. Look at the lever on the gearbox while somebody else operates the control to see what is happening.

Thanks for the reply, but , I did what you are suggesting and there is no movement at all at the cable ends or anywhere else apart from the lever itself moving loosely for about 80 degrees before it engages again.

That suggests the lever of the control is no longer moving the spindle. Check what happens to the cable operating the gear when you move the lever. Or take the lever off the spindle. Either the lever spline is worn or the spindle. Suspect the former. when you move the lever

I think you are right, something has worn out inside; gear/spline/shaft. It can only get worse, to the point where I will not be able to select gear, especially when needed the most ie in a marina pontoon!!. I can not see how it can be fixed without talking the whole thing apart; I am therefore looking for a replacement but I am not sure what I can replace it with; this one

Yes the teleflex unit looks the same
It has gone through various identities and is known generically as Morse (Hoover)

The mechanisms all follow the same basic pattern but with minor differences such as the method of retaining the cables, but they all take the same cable. The size and shape can vary as well as mounting points. So it is a case of checking that you can actually fit the one you are looking at. The Vetus one was my choice but that was influenced by the length and shape of the lever to clear the underside of a locker lid.
