Volvo MD11C Fuel Consumption

Originally rated (1976) at 23hp, but now probably somewhat less, does anyone have an accurate feel for what the fuel consumption is likely to be at 2000rpm / 4.5kts ?? Many thanks.

There are lots of variables, but I always estimate in smooth or slight sea to use about 2 litres per hour at cruising speed - that is with an MD2B but I would be doing about 1700 rpm at 4.5 kts.

With the MD11C in a Berwick we always reckoned around 1/2 gallon per hour. 1800rpm on the clock but it under read slightly so closer to 2000rpm.

Yes - I used to reckon abou 2l an hour (probably gave a slight saftey margin unless conditions were bad). 36ft c. 6kts at 2000 rpm

But as others have said - it can vary widley even on the same boat - so between boats ...

Im sure I used to remember it as 40 litres in the tank and 2 l/hr which from what you have said, sounds right. Thanks chaps.

It's also the "rule" that says 1 litre per 10hp on cruising speed. So 2 l/hr for your engine is indeed very reasonable.
