Any other symptoms like clouds of black smoke? If not, I would supect the fuel system - could be blocked filters, blocked tank breather, knackered lift pump or the injector pump not providing the xtra fuel required when turbo wizzing up. I would check the easy things first though!!!

Change your fuel filters for a start and maybe air filter.
look for water in fuel filter. After that look for air in system,
After that call the mechanic for more serious falt but most probable, muck, water or air.
Also look at filter in lift pump for muck. If you have primary
filters this can be thrown away (Volvo mechanics advise).

Could I suggest that the very first thing you do is check the state of the hull?

A sealine S28 with a single engine is perhaps a little light on power, and if there is drag on the hull it will slow it considerably until it gets enough speed up for the turbo to start spinning.

I once had a very similar problem with a boat that was a bit underpowered. It felt as though I was towing a parachute. The hull looked reasonably clean, if a little slimey but following a lift and pressurewash it was as though the horsepower had doubled!

In its worst pre season scrub and antifoul state it wouldn't even plane, struggling up to about 12 knots max.

Following an underwater clean 30 knots was possible. Seems an extreme difference, but with the weed it simply couldn't get enough speed for the revs to get high enough for the turbo to cut in.

I'd try a hull and outdrive pressurewash before throwing money at engineers, even if it doesn't look too bad...

I share Ari's thoughts.

Friend with Fairline Corniche, moored at Shamrock Quay, Southampton, came back from MBM cruise to CI's, where he was getting 20+kts (165 hp engines). After 3 weeks inactivity he went out and had difficulty getting on to plane.

Cleaned all filters, checked turbo's etc. No change. Finally someone advised cleaning bottom (2 to 3 months since arriving from Thames).

Went out yesterday and went straight to 21 kts.
