Volvo KAMD 300 Raw Water Impeller

Hi there,

I've just purchased a boat with a KAMD 300 and in the process of sorting bits out. I want to ensure I have a spare raw water impeller on board but can't find the relevant part number. I've downloaded all the manuals and user guides from Volvo and searched online to no avail.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where I might find this information without having to take it all apart so I can order a spare just in case?

From memory, VP make a small plastic ×spanner× that assists in the impeller removal, and you might want to carry some cable ties to squeeze it so it is easier to fit back in.
If you go to Keypart, they list various parts, especially service parts, by engine which you might find helpful in the future.
Incidentally, keep the area below the belts clean..that way you can spot early if the belt is slipping and spraying dust☺

This size of impeller us an easy squeeze into a pump housing even with my small hands , it's the D12 impellers that you need to compress the diameter and a miracle with the hammer in most port engine applications unless it's a squadron 58 when there easy .
 
Thanks guys, all your help is really appreciated. I've only been in to boating for two years - I had an old girl until recently with a ford mermaid engine which I learnt the basics about. But now I decided to upgrade to a bigger boat and now have to learn about this VP KAMD 300 I have so any help or pointers is appreciated. In line with the original post I was wondering how on earth I tell if there is a problem with the raw water cooling - with my old boat I saw water coming out the back of the boat, but with this one, the water output is done along with the exhaust underwater and I would guess even if the impeller went I wouldn't know as the exhaust is still vented under water and would produce the bubbles anyway :-/

Well, broadly, the alarm will go off, though that might be a bit later than perfect. If you change the impeller each year, it is only going to shred if there is no water flow, I would have thought- plastic bag around the in-flow, sort of thing.
So, I would put this very far down your list of boating worries!
 
Remove the lid of the raw water filter and pour some soap down in to the impeller housing
Turn the engine by hand and the impeller will come out easy
I've changed hundreds of impellers on different motors and never used a puller. Only soap :)
 
One thing to worry about when you change your impeller.... You cannot just take out the impeller by your fingers .... Often you see people doing many bad things ... could be the use of a screwdriver or so but the chance of damaging the housing is great when doing so. VP sells a little 'kit' for no money....
