Volvo KAD - Coolant pump change

Jesus i'm even more confused now! I thought that pulley for the multi-ribbed belt (there's 7 ribs I think) was the more modern one.... engine is a 2003 KAD300.

It says it all in your parts link you posted

Alt, my engines were rebuilt 6 years ago. They are KAD42a's but have more 43 ancillaries etc as things were swapped out. Then I've been adding bits to them to make it more confusing like your SC silencers etc.

Same with my outdrives. One is now technically a DPE since a bottom gear change, the other DPD-1. No difference just the inner prop shaft takes a bigger bolt. Guess which leg was prone to losing a rear prop....

Just an update on this, for anyone else who may have to replace....

Remove belts & tensioner mountings.
Remove supercharger mount (this is also the mount for the supercharger tensioner)
Drain coolant
Remove hoses from thermostat housing & coolant pump
Remove temp sensor (or alarm sensor, whatever) from thermostat housing (this makes removing / re-inserting MUCH easier) - Don't forget to replace the copper washer.

Loosen water pump (7 bolts) and thermostat housing (2 bolts)

Un-do both at same time... the pump wiggles out first, then the thermostat housing.

As VP tipped earlier, when re-inserting.... join the pump and thermostat housing back at the same time, wiggle the thermostat housing in first (to the manifold) and basically wiggle it all back in to place, ensuring you don't lose the sealing ring between the thermostat housing and pump.

When it's all 'pretty much' back together, I then slipped in the gasket between the pump and the block. I inserted from under the manifold side (the only side you can). - Some people recommended using a very light coating of copper grease and mount the gasket first. I know, for sure, if I tried this, it would have went all over the place. By having it 'loose', I was able to freely move it until it aligned up with the holes, then insert 1 bolt at a time ... once you've 2-3 bolts in, it'll be lined up.

It wasn't the worst job in the world (I think I got lucky), but wouldn't wish to repeat it.

No pics as I was on my own.

Hi Alt , Mr Googler and all Involved in this thread

I wonder if you can help me out
Bought a New Pump - ( Well Re Manufactured version) Part Ref was probably 3809412 on my KAD32 ( Number Replaced by ) 23059414 - this last one --- is the one I got and it looks like the one in

However my engineer is saying the Pulley needs to be changed - Mr Googler suggests above he needed a Conversion Pulley - Can you please let me know the part number for that Pulley Please
also if you know where is the best place to get it and roughly how much - I know I don't want much lol
any info would help
Cheers all

Volvo part number 3588385 about £80-100 - but double check that, I got the part number off an invoice from 3 years ago.
