Volvo hs63ae (zfe63a) erradic engagement of reverse

Hi,

My stb kamd44 gearbox has failed to engage reverse at a couple instances. It does not engage at all but rather revs at idle.

Situation is fixed by turning the engine off and on but even then there's a longer delay in engaging reverse than in fwd actuation. Same happens on lower helm and flybridge controls. the actuation a sounds fine when it happens.

Experience from similar? Calibration \ solenoid issue or just a loose solenoid wire? left the boat at marina last night and have yet to check the before mentioned or the oil filter for any signs of mechanical problems.

Op says gearbox , does he mean outdrive as the shaft / gearbox version has electric solenoids to engage forward/ reverse.

Wizzer are you on a shaft or drive ?

I have 2 KAMD44 shaft drive through HS63AE gearboxes
Starboard gearbox developed fault where it would go astern by not ahead, turned out to be shift control valve (PN 22941490), now the port gearbox has the same fault but this time will go ahead but no astern. As the shafts are contra rotating, I’m assuming this is exactly the same problem as I had with starboard.
In order to get this sorted, I’m sourcing another replacement shift control valve. The question I have is: are these units (22941490) serviceable?

I don’t think they are , also the supply of ZF parts is very slow, however I do have a second hand one that I know is good , the fault turned out to be a blocked filter , drop me a pm if your interested in buying it .

I’m still looking into the possibility of getting these units serviced / repaired. To date I’ve not received any encouraging replies from the various companies I’ve contacted.
