I am trying to find out if anyone out there has heard or hs had problems with the wintrisation of the 4.3 gl-a volvo petrol. As after following the full wintrisation drill as laid out in their owners handbook to m horror in the spring I had a cracked block-Result not covered under warrenty so I had to pay for a complete new package and again to my surprise I was informed that the gl-a is no longer in production and I had been fitted with the new gl-b(which is identical)and with the new engine came the new owners handbook and again surprise surprise the winteriseation line drawings etc etc had changed. I am just trying to find out if anyone knows of a problem with this particular package.

I think having got one wrong, and having just got a new engine, a few bob to a Volvo service engineer would be a good investment /forums/images/icons/wink.gif You are lucky though it took me four months to get my 4.3GL engine manual after delivery of the new boat!

Dont think you need special Volvo instructions for winterising an engine. Putting antifreeze in would help though.

Rather than drain the block, make up a strong anfifreeze solution in a large container (something like a cut down dustbin) big enough for the leg water intake to be immersed.
Warm engine up using flushing bellows, when hot, switch off and put bin under leg and lower leg into it. Run it up again until a/freeze mixture comes out of exhaust. Thats it done!

The idea is that just draining the block will leave little pockets of water in the water jacket, with a/freeze it doesn't matter as it won't freeze. Finally, wrap engine in an old duvet or similar, this will keep condensation away as well as acting as cold insulation. If boat is out of water, leave leg in down position (rain won't get in exhaust and freeze, as I have seen happen when leg left in tilt position.)
