Hi Everyone
I recently had a bit of gearbox trouble in the Seine near Paris. Basically, I had the gearbox rebuilt and I don't think it was reassembled correctly. The gearbox works but has trouble going into forward gear. It needs full travel of the cable and eventually it goes into forward but not very positively. It goes into reverse but the reverse position feels like its happening too soon and near the central position of the morse control as opposed to a more rearward position where it should be. The cabling was not moved. I suspect that the selector position was upset during the rebuild. A friend says that a lot of damage can be done if the selector is not seated in the clutch cone correctly and is not fully in its indent. I have two weeks before I return to the boat and would like to have the know how to adjust the selector. Its very accesable. Is there an online manual for this gearbox or does anyone know how the selector lever is adjusted? Its an MS2 gearbox or "reverse gear" as its called.

From the way you describe it, it sounds like the selector arm needs moving round a spline or two on its shaft. A little trial and error should find the correct position quite quickly.

cheers,
David

Is there a spline on the shaft? If there is then thats the answer. The gearbox is in the boat and full of oil so I do not want to drain it unless its nessessary and I know what I'm doing. The lever on the side of the gearbox looks like its in the right position but the internal pieces may not be.
