Volvo only seem willing to provide the gph at max revs and "cruising speed". Does anyone know of a source for the consumption figures for the full rev range? I am particularly interested in the KAMD43P and TAMD41P, I have failed to find anything with Google.

Re: Hmm

I was convinced you were wrong and that I had seen power, torque and specific fuel consumption graphs on volvopenta.com etc etc.
So, off I went and you are right. The graphs are there for TAMD63 and upwards - go into diesel inboards - but nothing for the TAMD or any of the KAD range inboard or outdrives.
I wonder why and that's not being specifically suspicious.

? try a dealer in case the info is on the printed handouts or, and it's v long winded, find a mag test with the various engines in it and they "usually" give consumption measured or using the propellor curve.

Best of luck.

Re: Hmm

I have looked at the printed datasheets ( they are on the Volvo website as well ) and there is nothing there.
Maybe Kim or one of the IPC bods can point me to a review of a boat with these engines, as I have stacks of back copies lying around.

I was curious of the consumption figures for my TAMD41P before buying. I found an article with with figures at various revs in a French Magazine and then used Excel to produce an interpolated graph for the Antares 760. Now owning one the graph seems reasonably accurate.

If you PM me I will email that to you if it is of any use.

Thanks.
That's exactly what I been looking for too - especially as I am soon to take delivery of a Beneteau Antares powered by a KAMD43P!

Re Propeller law

I am sure others will correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 2.5 refers to the power of the function, as a way of saying 3x prop would be to the cube.

Aerodynamic drag goes up with the cube of the speed and I think the power of 2.5 of the engine spped is a reasonable approximation of fuel consumption in a boat. Obviously, the lines meet at zero and max power but at any revs in between max throttle will accelerate the boat but the 2.5 rule indicates the power needed to maintain that speed and so the fuel used (diesels not suffering from the throttling effect that a petrol does)

PS must go and have a look at that german site, thanks for the info everyone
