Volvo D2 40 , the EVC panel, does it have an over heating alarm and if so how can you test it working , ? mine have a charging alarm , has in its shows a battery flashing but no indication of a engine over heating alarm .

If you're talking about the alarm symbols in the tachometer, yes there is an overheat alarm. You can't test it, although you can check that the alarm sounder works by leaving the "ignition" switched on after the engine has stopped.

There's a list of the alarm symbols in the Operator Manual, which you can download from the VP website.

The Manual says , The coolant symbol will show if the temp too hight , nothing about an alarm , and as the EVCis out of view , you wouldn't know if there a problem until it's too late , that the reason I am asking if there any way it can be tested

You haven't confirmed whether you're talking about the alarm symbols in the tacho. But, assuming you are, the manual also says "If an alarm occurs, a flashing warning symbol will be displayed in the tachometer window and an audible alarm will sound."

Nothing said about an audible alarm in my manual just an flashing warning symbol , has I said the problem is the display is out of my view so even if there was a problem we would see it , so back to what I asked do anyone know how I can test it ? And yes the alarm symbol in the EVC display which is locket in the middle of the techo , sorry if that wasn't clear .
By the way no alarm sounds when the engine is switch off and the ignition left on , that only happen when you first turn the ignition on .

Try this manual - http://pie.volvopenta.com/ViewFileF...403&d=Owners Publication&s=5811359&lang=en-GB

If you stop the engine and don't turn the panel off, an alarm should sound after a while.

We have a D2-40 engine and it has an audible overheat alarm- we had it sound several times a few years ago running the engine hard in heavy seas.

The glow plug rocker switch in the up direction tests the alarm. Otherwise ours has never gone off, except as stated above.

I just checked it on the boat. If you stop the engine, but don't turn the on/off switch off, the alarm sounds after about 10 seconds.
